Environmental Champion Dr. Joseph Lyou Endorses Allison Holdorff Polhill for City Council

LOS ANGELES — Today, Allison Holdorff Polhill announced that Dr. Joseph K. Lyou, President and CEO of Coalition for Clean Air, has endorsed her campaign for Los Angeles City Council District 11 in his individual capacity.

Holdorff Polhill began her career in public service as a first-year attorney and successfully represented three Native American tribes  preventing the nuclear industry from dumping radioactive waste on sacred grounds and into pristine aquifers connecting to the Colorado River, the water source for much of Southern California. She organized large swaths of the environmental community, including groups like the Greenpeace, to join the landmark legal victory.

“I’ve worked with Allison on several matters, and she delivers every single time. We have deployed 200 air quality sensors throughout the Los Angeles Unified School district. This provides everyone within the communities throughout Los Angeles with real time data on the air quality within their neighborhoods. This is a critical tool for fire safety and environmental justice. This wouldn’t have happened without Allison’s ability to bring people together and her leadership in making sure we were protecting the health of the students and teachers. That is why I am proud to endorse her campaign for LA City Council,” said Dr. Joseph K. Lyou.

“I’m grateful for Joe’s support and most of all for his lifelong dedication to safeguarding our environment. Council District 11 encapsulates some of the most biodiverse areas of our city, and on the City Council, it will be one of my top priorities to fight climate change, protect our coastline and air quality, and reach LA’s goal of 100% clean energy by 2035,” said Allison Holdorff Polhill.

Dr. Lyou leads Coalition for Clean Air, an advocacy group dedicated to protecting public health, improving air quality, and preventing climate change. He also founded the California Environmental Rights Alliance, which advocates for environmental justice. In 2020, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon appointed Lyou to serve on the California Transportation Commission. In addition, Dr. Lyou served for 12 years at the Governor’s Appointee to the South Coast Air Quality Management District Governing Board.
